Additionally, the Maharashtra state government shall inform the public of all prospective plans that call for the construction of subterranean tunnels beneath the SGNP after consulting with all interested parties.

According to the REC’s minutes of the meeting, “An undertaking from BMC to the effect that ‘no more tunnels other than the proposed tunnels shall be constructed by the User Agency in future’ if the study requested in point ‘a’ above is conclusive of the requirement of only one tunnel by the User Agency, i.e. the BMC, keeping in mind the traffic situation for the next 50-100 years.”

The pristine territory of the SGNP is succumbing to the threat of invasion, the REC continued. Because the BMC has been unable to control the growing population inside the city since the User Agency. It is understood that without the BMC’s active participation, the SGNP officers cannot completely expel these encroachers. In order to actively cooperate with the SGNP officials in evicting any encroachments from the SGNP and, if necessary. Positively rehabilitating them elsewhere within a year. The User Agency should offer an undertaking.
