Harbour Line Mumbai : Know About Best Places To Purchase & Rent Along The Route

Early in the 20th century, the Mumbai Suburban Railways constructed a branch line called the Harbour Line. It connects several of the city’s key business and industrial centres, making it a popular daily commute option for thousands of passengers. All other branches of the suburban railway network have interchanges with the Harbour line, with the exception of the Panvel-Diva-Vasai and Panvel-Karjat sections.

Since the 1990s, the Harbour Line, an arterial section of the Mumbai Suburban Railway Network, has provided seamless connection to several neighbourhoods in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This line was given that name since it followed Mumbai’s actual natural harbour. This 66-km route, which serves the eastern half of the city, has 32 stations and links to some of Mumbai’s key employment centres via interchanges with the Western line. The Harbour line is described in full here, including with its route, cost, schedule, and the best areas along the way to purchase and rent.

Mumbai Harbour Line: Route

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Goregaon, and Panvel are the Harbour line’s terminus stations, and they correlate to the routes from CSMT to Goregaon, Panvel, and Panvel to CSMT, respectively.

Parallel to one another are the Central line and the Harbour line. However, the Harbour line continues till Sewri after turning to the east just before Sandhurst Road station. The two sections split off at Wadala Road station. In order to connect to the Western line, the first branch route enters Mahim Junction and exits at Goregaon. The second branch line makes its first stop at Vashi before entering Navi Mumbai via Mankhurd. This route splits into two at Navi Mumbai; one travels to Panvel while the other takes the Trans-Harbour line to Thane.

Mumbai’s Harbour Line: A History

The first section of the line to open in 1910 was the section between Reay Road and Kurla. After 15 years, the line was connected to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) via a rail corridor running between Sandhurst Road and Dockyard Road.

In 1951, Harbour Line and Mankhurd were joined. In the 1990s, it was expanded to include the majority of Navi Mumbai by using the Mankhurd-Belapur-Panvel route. Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, and Panvel were connected between 1992 and 1998. This passageway was converted to a double queue in 2000.

The Trans-Harbour line that connects Vashi and Thane was opened in 2004. For the everyday commuters who previously had to take a longer route via Mumbai and change trains at the Kurla station, it guaranteed increased convenience.
