Pune-Bengaluru Expressway: Nitin Gadkari, the union minister responsible for roads, announced on Saturday that a new 745-kilometer national highway would link Pune and Bengaluru, passing through the drought-prone Satara and Sangli districts. Under the Bharatmala Pariyojna, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has suggested building the Pune–Bengaluru Expressway.

The National Highway 48 (the former NH 4) will be replace by this Greenfield expressway, which is predict to be faster and less congested than the current route. The future Pune-Bengaluru Highway will be a six-lane, access-controlled expressway that can support a speed of 120 km/h. There would be a 95 km reduction in the distance between Pune and Bengaluru. As opposed to the current 11 to 12 hours, it will cut the travel duration between Pune and Bengaluru to 7 to 8 hours.

Status of Pune-Bengaluru Expressway

Work on the Pune-Bengaluru expressway project has not yet started; it is currently in the planning phase. Land acquisition for this Greenfield project will begin after a detail project report (DPR) is produce.
