Keep a check on how much you water

Even though water is essential for plant growth, pay attention to how much you water your plants during this season.  Varying plants require varying amounts of water.  For instance, cactus have quite different water requirements than annual plants do. While succulent plants’ roots may die from overwatering, fruit-bearing plants do require a certain quantity of water to survive.

Keep in mind that the amount of moisture in the air is already extremely high during rain. Before watering, it is advised to check the soil’s moisture level. Don’t water the soil if you discover it to be very damp.

If the top soil is dry, a plant requires water. So, before watering your plants, double-check that. Additionally, it’s advised to utilise sprinklers when watering them to avoid overwatering.

Protect against insects and fungus

Plants are more susceptible to several fungal infections during the rainy season. Clear the plants of all dead and wilted leaves just before the rainy season starts. Pruning the plants is advised since it will assist to successfully stop fungal growth and get rid of pest infestation. Pruning will make sure that the plant has the adequate air circulation it needs to fend against fungal infections. Additionally, it will promote the plant’s better development.

The plant disease powdery mildew, which causes a white powder to accumulate on the surface of leaves and eventually cause the plant and leaf to wilt and die, is one that is frequently seen during the monsoon season. By keeping the plant in sunshine, this may be avoided. Neem oil should be applied to the surface of the leaf if there isn’t any sunshine and it’s raining outside. Another fungus illness that is common during the monsoons is anthracnose. It is preferable to trim the plant’s diseased portion in order to save the remaining portion of the plant as a solution.

A typical issue that shortens a plant’s life is root rot. In order to prevent extra water from pooling at the base of any potted plants in your house or garden, make sure they all have enough drainage. If it occurs, it may begin to affect the roots, which would cause the plant to wilt.  Make sure the pot’s drainage pores are not obstructed. Check the dirt at the pot’s base as well. Repotting the plant with new soil is a good option if the soil is too sticky.

  • Fill the container to the brim with soil during the monsoon season; preferable, use a mixture of soil and manure to avoid waterlogging the plant’s top.
  • This waterlogging is bad because it may take longer for nutrients to get to the plant and because pests like mosquitoes can develop.
