There are many factors that are associated with the direction of Stairs as per Vastu. And one of the important factors is whether the stairs are constructed inside or outside of your home. So, we will be discussing it in brief!

Internal Staircase Vastu

We have seen most people construct the internal staircase near the entrance of the home or the building. But as per Vastu, it is not the ideal direction of the internal staircase according to Vastu. For the internal staircase, the ideal direction is in the southwest direction of the home or building. However, one can also build the staircase in the south or west direction of the building and it is acceptable as per Vastu Shastra.

Ideally, as per Vastu the stairs always should start from the north and end towards the south. Whereas the stairs starting from the east and going towards the west can be alternative choice for staircase direction as per Vastu.

The staircase located at the center portion of the home or the property should be strictly avoided as per Vastu.

Internal Staircase also should not start or end at the kitchen, Pooja room, or storeroom. Also, it should not be a continuation from the basement to the upper floor.

Having doors at the starting point and at the end of the staircase is advisable and it is also advisable that the staircase inside your home should not be directly visible to the visitors.

External Staircase Vastu

The ideal direction to build a staircase as per Vastu is in the southeast or The southwest. Whereas the external staircase should never be built in the northeast corner of your home or building.

If you are a landlord and renting out the upper floor of your home to the tenants then make sure you are not constructing the staircase just in front of your entrance gate because it results in financial losses as per Vastu Shastra.

Shape Of The Staicase as Per Vastu

Ideally, the recommended shape of the staircase as per Vastu is square or rectangle. Staircases should not be too steep because as per Vastu it is believed that they drain out your feelings. The spiral staircase is also not recommended by Vastu Shastra.

Color of the Stairs as Per Vastu

The stairs should always be colored with light colors and dark colors should be strictly avoided. Also, the wall adjacent to the staircase should not be painted with dark colors.

The Number of Steps in Staircase as per Vastu

The number of steps in the staircase should always be the sum to odd numbers like 15, 17,21, and so on. The staircase should never have steps with the number ending with ‘0’.

Vastu Shastra For Spaces Under Staircase 

The spaces under the staircase should never be used as a kitchen, pooja room, study room, or bathroom. Ideally, it can be used as storage for necessary things. It should not be the storage for unnecessary things that are not required for years. Also one should not use this space as storage for old footwear.

As per Vastu, the spaces below the staircase should not be used to store any valuables things like cash, jewelry, etc.

Should Staircase Build Only in Clockwise Direction?

No, as per Vastu shastra, the staircase can be built clockwise as well as anticlockwise direction. If the staircase is built in a positive Vastu zone then should be constructed clockwise. Whereas if it falls under the negative Vastu zone then should be built in the clockwise direction.
