Gautam Adani :<\/strong> The infrastructure tycoon is the first Asian to have appeared among the Bloomberg Billionaire Index’s upper echelons; the index is currently dominated by US-based IT entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

On January 24, 2023, US short-seller Hindenburg Research announced that it held short positions in the Adani Group. The firm accused the conglomerate of improperly using offshore tax havens and raised red flags regarding high debt, which sparked a massive sell-off of the group companies’ shares that were listed on the Indian stock exchange.<\/p>\n

The group’s owner, billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, is rank fourth richest in the world by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Adani trails Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Bernard Arnault with a $113 billion wealth as of January 27, 2023.<\/p>\n

Adani, 60, who dropped out of college and now runs a corporate empire with interests ranging from ports to coal, surpassed Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, a billionaire, as the wealthiest Asian in February of this year. In July 2022, he passed Microsoft’s Bill Gates to become the fourth-richest person in the world. He had been a billionaire by April.<\/p>\n

Adani controls six publicly traded firms in India, including Adani Enterprises, Adani Green Energy, and Adani Electricity, encompassing his business interests in real estate, commodities, power production and transmission, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
