To facilitate traffic flow between north and south Mumbai<\/a>, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced plans to construct a high-speed road corridor linking Versova<\/a> and Dahisar<\/a>. The Versova-Dahisar Link Road (VDLR), a 24-kilometer arterial route, is the second stage of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP).<\/p>\n

More access to the north will be provided by the road, which starts at the Lokhandwala junction where the proposed Bandra-Versova Sea Link Road (BVSLR) is supposed to end. With a 70% reduction in travel time, this high-speed corridor is expected to transform transport in Mumbai. This will reduce traffic on the Western Express Highway, the SV Road, and the Link Road, which are now the sole routes connecting south and north Bombay. The VDLR will lessen the city’s carbon impact and bring it one step closer to realizing its sustainability objectives.<\/p>\n

Versova to Dahisar<\/h2>\n

The VDLR will be built in four separate packages, each of which includes elevated bridges and underground tunnels. The initial package, which will cover 4.5 km, will feature an elevated road, a stilted arterial road, and a basket bridge. This stage will link Lokhandwala to the Versova VBSL junction. The second phase, which will be 7.48 km long and include an elevated road and a cable-stayed bridge, will link Lokhandwala with Mindspace on Goregaon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The third phase will extend up to 5.32 km &\u00a0will link Mindspace with Charkop and comprise an open-to-sky ramp as well as an underground tunnel extending between Charkop & Malad<\/a>. The last phase, which will be 6.95 km long, will include a cable-stayed bridge, an arterial road, and a basket bridge. BMC expects to begin construction on the first tunnel this year after completing the project’s final blueprint. It will take six years and cost Rs 9,980 crore to complete this large project. Now, the first stage of the MCRP is almost finished, and 75% of the building work has been finished, per BMC statistics.<\/p>\n
