According to a source, the two corridors, Metro Line-2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) and Metro Line-7 (Dahisar east-Andheri east), are being planned to be constructed simultaneously in 2020.
The MMRDA has not yet been allocated land for a Metro Line-7 car depot as the land plot is with India’s Airports Authority (AAI).
The MMRDA also claimed that by 2021, Line-2B (DN Nagar-Mandale), Line-4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali), and Line-6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Vikhroli) would be operational.
Once completed, it is expected that these five lines (2A, 7, 2B, 4, and 6) with an aggregate value of Rs 44,869 crores will serve more than 50 lakh commuters around the 98 stations across this city, “said to be MMRDA.
Both lines are expected to make a major 35 percent commuter change, thus ease the grueling grind on the suburban rail network, it said.
HC challenges the decision of the government to set up high-rise metro lines in Mumbai.

It said that it did not understand why the State and the Metropolitan Regional Development Authority of Mumbai (MMRDA) could not see that the slabs used to build the elevated metro lines would ‘ give way after 40-50 years due to vibrations and would take years to carry out repairs.

3 New subway lines approved for the metropolitan region of Mumbai.

24 July 2019: The Maharashtra cabinet provided the green signal to three new Metro lines in the Metropolitan Region of Mumbai, all to be completed by 2026.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) would be building the three projects.
The Gaimukh-Shivaji Chowk 9.2-kilometer line in the area of Mira Road will have four elevated stations and will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 4,476 crores and is expected to be completed by March 2022, it said.
The elevated line from Kalyan to Taloja will be 20.7 kilometers long with 17 stations. It will cost Rs 5,865 crores and will be completed by March 2024.
The Wadala-CST line is going to be 12.7 kilometers long, 8.7 kilometers of which will be underground, and the rest will be elevated.
Mumbai Metro network to be expanded to 276 km: Finance Minister of Maharashtra
28 February 2019: Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, presenting the ballot-on-account for the first four months of 2019-20 (April to July), said on 27 February 2019 that the Mumbai Metro network would be extended to 276 km from 11.4 km at present.
The Metropolitan Region Development Authority of Mumbai (MMRDA), Mumbai Metro’s executing body, has been granted a 276 km network node, he said.
The metro will be extended to Mumbai’s satellite towns such as Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar, Kalyan-Dombivali, and Bhiwandi, the finance minister said.
