Update On The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project: The 22 km long, six-lane, access-controlled Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Trans Harbor Link, would connect Sewri in Mumbai with Chirle in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. Check out the project’s completion schedule. It will be India’s longest maritime connection.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link will soon provide Mumbai, an island metropolis that depends significantly on a strong public infrastructure and transit for connection, a facelift (MTHL). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is building the 22 km-long project to link Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai (MMRDA).

The idea was first conceived in the 1990s, but due to several obstacles, it wasn’t renewed until 2016. The project’s development started in April 2018, with a potential completion date of September 2023. There are four packages for the complete project. navimumbaihouses.com provides a thorough analysis of the project’s progress and the effects it has had on the real estate market.

Features of Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

According to the plan, the project’s Mumbai terminus would include a three-level interchange that will link to both the Sewri-Worli connection and the Eastern Freeway. There will be an interchange between Shivaji Nagar and Chirle on the Navi Mumbai end.

Ships may transit easily to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) underneath the Mumbai Trans Harbour Connection thanks to a four kilometre steel bridge in the middle of the concrete link. There will be noise barriers in the Sewri mudflat area and visual barriers at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

A 5.6 kilometre temporary bridge that is presently being used to move equipment will eventually be transformed into a platform for birdwatching. The project is actively being worked on.

The facilities include variable message signs (VMS), which are crucial for a maritime link, and an intelligent transportation system (ITS).

Tolls for the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

When the project was first proposed in 2012, MMRDA planned toll rates of Rs 175 for automobiles, Rs 265 for light commercial vehicles (LCV), Rs 525 for heavy commercial vehicles (HCV), and Rs 790 for multi-axle trucks, which they intend to collect till 2045. However, JICA—the project’s major investor—suggested raising toll prices when building costs rose. Closer to the time of completion and operation, more specific information will be accessible on this.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link’s status at the moment

The project was initially intended to be built using a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model; however, the MMRDA eventually revised the concept and carried out the project using an EPC model, or engineering, procurement, and construction. Approximately 85% of MTHL’s construction work was finished as of August 2022, and the remaining work is anticipated to be finished by September 2023.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link’s effects on the housing market

From a connectivity and real estate perspective, the project is anticipated to be successful. It would quicken access to the Mumbai Port Trust, JNPT, and the projected Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project would transform the real estate market in the surrounding localities, including Turbhe, Ghansoli, Airoli, Ulwe, Dronagiri, Vashi, and Panvel, among others, by providing quick access to South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Many well-known real estate developers, including Godrej Properties, Arihant Group, and Marathon Group, have already started developing residential projects in the neighbourhoods surrounding the MTHL project in an effort to capitalise on the spike in demand for housing units.
